The Hunt for a Hero Awards is an annual program led by the Here for Good Foundation, celebrating the often-overlooked individuals who are quietly changing lives and shifting culture across Australian communities. These awards are not about popularity or status — they’re about recognising the quiet courage, integrity, and action of people working to make things better, especially in spaces affected by family and domestic violence (FDV), social disadvantage, and trauma.
Whether it’s a local youth mentor, a man working through his past to become a better father, a teacher going above and beyond for FDV-affected students, or someone holding space for others in recovery — the Hunt for a Hero Awards is about lifting these people up and saying: we see you, and what you’re doing matters.
The 2024 Program at a Glance
In 2024, we launched the inaugural Hunt for a Hero Awards with:
-
Over 60 nominations from across Australia
-
6 award categories, including community healing, prevention in action, and men showing leadership in growth
-
A powerful two-hour celebration evening, filled with storytelling, connection, and honest reflection
-
A national audience tuning in to hear what real leadership looks like
This was not a glitzy event — it was grounded, respectful, and moving. Every winner was nominated by their peers, families, or local organisations, and each story shared on the night reminded us why small actions can carry enormous weight.
